Which Way to Exit
This is an original gouache painting titled, Which Way to Exit. In addition to working in a representational style, Jaqua took time to develop other approaches to the creative experience. An opportunity to observe the fundamentals in design and color, those bedrocks of what painting is usually about. With no preconceived notion of what the finished product should appear in its final selection, there’s a poker-like feeling of playing with the cards. In this case, playing with shapes, lines, and colors, and seeing how they fall. Although it helps to have a knowledge of how all the artistic screws and bolts must react with each other, no certainty is expected and the delight in where art points itself is appreciated even more. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower righthand corner of the paper.
