An award-winning watercolorist, Jaqua often painted from photographs he himself had taken while out in the world. He found that roaming a city like San Francisco enabled him to capture a lively street scene by camera, keeping in mind what the shot might entail for a good painting; color, composition, structure, and of course, subject matter. Chinatown in S.F. was a regular inspiration to the artist as there was always activity and something interesting to capture.

One California gallery owner put it this way:
"His work is unique and his mastery of the watercolor medium has no equal."
